I use Trainline also. Very easy.
It sure is!
You saved my vacation! I wanted to do this tour with another tour conpany but they only had one spot left. Happy to have found an alternative.
So glad I could help! Hope you have a wonderful visit!
Hi Elyssa, thanks for the info. I am planning to visit Rome in the first week of Nov this year, is this consider low season with lesser crowds? Thank you.
I wish I could book far out. 😢
I think a lot of people would like that option, too!
Such a helpful video, but I can’t seem to find the exact entry point on “Via Foro Romano” on Google maps. Can you list a direct link or gps coordinates? I would love to use that entry point but don’t want to walk circles around the forum in case I’m looking at the wrong location on the map 😂
Really great! We are visiting Rome soon and source all our attractions and walking tours from your channel. We are going to stay at the Napoleon, and you mentioned a market in the video. I love the markets and really would like to visit the one you mentioned. Could you possibly give me the name? And it would be great to have a video on the markets in Rome or Florence? - When you wonder about what theme next. :-) Thanks for the great content.
Wow, what a great video. I was finding buying tickets overwhelming to a point where we started to consider alternative places for our anniversary in December. There's so many ticketing options with little clear advice on where to book. You've alleviated our fears by giving clear and helpful advice. I can't wait to visit. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm so glad you found the video helpful! Have a wonderful anniversary trip this December!
Have you ever put together small group tours? I know Italian laws are fussy about being a tour operator, but what if a group of ‘friends’ happened to meet with you, and you led us on an incredible walk of Rome while sharing your wealth of knowledge?
That's so nice of you! I'm flattered that you'd like to take a tour with me, but it's truly difficult without a guide license. I tried to get one a while ago but they make it nearly impossible so I gave up. They give the test every "few" (random) and they keep changing the rules about who is giving the licenses (regions, provinces - it's Byzantine!) So now the best way for me to share what I know and love about Rome is by making these videos (and on my websites, www.romewise.com and www.florencewise.com ....and now www.napleswise.com too!)
Great info, I like the clever idea of getting to the Sistine Chapel early. The last time I was there, in 2007, it was crazy back then.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You're absolutely perfect!!!
Wow, thank you! So nice of you!
Just came back from Rome, more or less did that walk twice between my first lodging and second. In Rome one easily puts 20k steps daily and not get bored.
Yes that's one thing I love about Rome - you can walk and walk and there is always something to see!
Hi there, how about first week of December? Please suggest. Thanks in advance
It can be busy because of the December 8 holiday and in Spain, December 6 is a holiday so sometimes we get a lot of Spanish tourists of those dates fall near a weekend. But it should be a little quieter than peak season.
Thank you i watched all your colesseum video really helpful❤
Glad it was helpful!
Can you provide the address of the new Foro Romano entrance please? And can I also pick up the free childrens tickets from here? Is this the best entrance to use when walking from the Pantheon?
I think you'll find all the info you need in this video: ua-cam.com/video/03ij1AbwjDA/v-deo.html I walk you there and I have a map to all the entrances. Yes, you can collect your free kids' tickets there. As for walking from the Pantheon, yes, this is one of the best 3 entrances. I explain it all in the video above.
@@Romewise Very helpful, thanks!
Once again I wish I had found you before I spent 4 days in Rome in May 2023. I did see some of the churches you present in this video, but I missed much more that I would have loved to visit. I enjoy seeing them now through your videos. Thank you!
Thanks for letting me know you enjoy my channel! I'm glad you like the content and find new things to see on your next visit to Rome!
That statue of Saint John Paul 2 is an insult. 😮 Thank you so much for your fabulous video. I always learn something new about the eternal city.
Yes, I know so many people dislike it. Thanks for your kind comments! I'm glad you liked the rest of the video!
Elyssa is best source of Rome info on the entire interwebs! Full Stop 🛑
You are so kind!! I can't thank you enough!
For those wanting to go in the fall of 2024, this is from the email I just received: "Dear visitors, due to maintenance work in the archaeological area under St. Peter, guided tours of the necropolis and tomb of St. Peter will be suspended from 17 August 2024 to 3 November 2024. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. "
Yes, I had heard this. I had already updated the description of this video with that news at the very top. It's unfortunate for those coming these next few months, but they are doing a lot of preparations all over Rome and at the Vatican for the 2025 Jubilee. Sorry if you are one of the people whose plans were disappointed by this news!
A wonderful video. Although its been many years Palazzo Zuccari is always a quick must see for me.
Thanks!
Excellent insight and history lesson. Did that walk 15 yrs ago w/o your insight. Did see Andy Garcia coming out of Gucci which thrilled girlfriend.
Thank you so much as always! How fun to have e celebrity sighting! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏
I really do love your wanders. The first time I was in Rome, we stayed on the via Nationale. My son's favourite thing in the evening was to have ice cream at the Spanish Steps, to sit, and people watch. Nearly 20 years ago. We would walk back via the Quatro Fontaine. We also did your route in 2022. A trip down memory lane. So to speak. Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for sharing your memories - I think the Spanish Steps does evoke that kind of nostalgia about what it was like to visit here 20 years ago (around when I moved here!) It was definitely a bit quieter and yes, you could sit on the steps (which you can't do now.) Things have certainly changed! Thanks again and as always for your support!
Good explanation of the Meridian in Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. I think most visitors don't get it at all and the explanatory signage is just in Italian if I recall correctly (at least it was the last time I was in there).
Thank you! I actually did a deep dive into studying it because I wanted to understand what it was and how it worked. I love sharing arcane things like this because I hope it makes a difference in how people enjoy my videos. Thanks a lot for noticing and commenting! (PS - in the sacristy in the back, it is explained also in English but the explanation is far from clear in either language.)
We will be staying near the Vatican when in Rome in September. Any suggestions for getting around?
Yes, you can use the metro to get around Rome easily, but depending on where you are staying, and depending on your energy level and interests, you can walk a lot of places, too. www.romewise.com/rome-metro.html
Another awesome video. I love it when you show us your secret spots and it’s so nice to see beautiful churches that most people don’t visit. Thank you 😊
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching and commenting!
as usual you offer tips and info I did not know after many, many trips to Roma. Questions: is there a list on your website that details the churches you showed in the Video? Also, I prefer to follow a map so the list of stops will help me plot out the route. If you have a map that marks each church, please let me know. I am forwarding this to Japanese friends who will be there in October
Excellent walking tour! Thank you for sharing, Romewise. 👍🌻😃
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I always learn so many new things from your excellently produced and very helpful videos. Mille grazie! Now, if only there were a quantum portal from Maui to Roma!
Thanks very much! Oh, I love the idea of a portal - trade places?
@@Romewise Prego. I really enjoy all your videos. Wouldn't it be great to be able to just transport to/from Roma & Maui? Dream big. The travel time to/from Europe just kills me as I get older. Luckily I have been able to visit Italy, France, and the UK several times. Aloha!🌴
You're the best Elyssa!! Another fabulous walk. You provide history, important information and context in such a natural conversational way... not to mention the beauty of everything! And clearly, you love your subject. ♥️ Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind comments! Yes, I do love my subject and I love making videos that people like you enjoy! Thanks again!
Wow Elyssa you have done it again, a brilliant walking tour and at once shown us a church we have never taken any notice of despite being in Rome so many times and have been past many times, The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Matiri. As we aew very near the termini when we are in Rome later in the year we will certainly look around as well as all of the other churches you show us on this walk, You keep giving us more and more hidden gems, thank you so much Rome is not Rome without you.
Love it! This is the same walk along with stops that I make when in Rome!
Thank you! I'm glad you know this walk - it's a good one! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Thank you for your kindness! I appreciate you!
Visiting in November. Was looking for exactly this kind of information. Thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
Good video! thanks! 💚 do you have a tour guide that you recommend for similar sites? I like the way you explain things! 🌟
Thanks so much. Yes, I have linked to my recommended tours in the description and also in the pinned comment. There are two that do more or less this route. One is more in-depth (and costs more) than the other but both are excellent options.
Fabulous video ❤
You are so kind!
Got back home to the UK from Rome a couple of weeks ago. Your channel was wonderful for helping to plan our trip. One highlight was booking the rooftop tour of Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. We wouldn't have known to have done that if it wasn't for your recent video. Thank you. And keep up the great work! Your channel is an asset to a wonderful city.
An absolutely fantastic content! Thanks so much. I will study your videos before my next trip to Rome! :)
Thank you so much for your kind comments!

I love your videos, thank you sharing. You're entertaining and charming. Question, can I enter the Colosseum and Forum with the Roma Pass?
Thank you, that's very kind of you. Yes, the Roma Pass includes the Colosseum / Roman Forum / Palatine Hill as ONE of its sites, so if you use it to enter the Colosseum as one of your free sites, you can still visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill on that same ticket, meaning you don't need to use another space on the Roma Pass to get you in as a free site, because the Roman Forum / palatine Hill is included with your Colosseum ticket.
When purchasing tickets for the guided tour "Full Experience - Underground Levels and Arena", is it possible to exit the colosseum after the tour and come back later in the day to visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill using the same tickets? I can't find this info on the official colosseum website.
Yes, as I mention in this video and all my Colosseum videos, every Colosseum ticket (except for the night tour which is not running at the time I'm writing this) comes with a one-time entry to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill, and this may be used anytime up to 24 hours BEFORE or AFTER your Colosseum entry time.
We are also planning on visiting South Italy in the first week of November along with Rome & Florence. How is the scene in the South? We have heard that the frequency of ferries for Amalfi, Capri etc is very less in November. It’ll be great if you could help us out
I'm not as familiar with Southern Italy, especially when it comes to ferries during November. I invite you to visit our new website, www.napleswise.com, and to subscribe to our free newsletter there. The website covers Naples and Campagna, all the areas you mention. We also have a Facebook group you may wish to join. There you can ask us and also other group members more questions about your Campagna trip. facebook.com/groups/napleswise/
thank you, youir videos are very helpful in planning our summer rome trip
Happy to hear that!
So informative - Thank you! 😍
Glad it was helpful!
FYI: Just received this. Dear visitors, due to maintenance work in the archaeological area under St. Peter, guided tours of the necropolis and tomb of St. Peter will be suspended from 17 August 2024 to 3 November 2024.
Yes, I just found out about this. Yesterday I updated my description of this video with that news. I am assuming it's due to preparations for the Jubilee. I'm sorry if your visit was cancelled.
I have a question. How I can enter from Forum or palatine to "August forum"? in the look like in the another road
You cannot enter the Forum of Augustus. You can only view this site from street level.
If I wanna go Colosseum on 10/31, 30 days advance is 10/1 right? (Of course Rome time).
Yes but I'd start checking on September 30.
Does anyone know if the SUPER site ticket is still a thing now that the sale of tix went in-house, so to speak?
Yes, absolutely you can still get the Roman Forum SUPER pass. Please see my latest video for all the news about the new ticketing procedures: ua-cam.com/video/nlZQCLZvT04/v-deo.html
What do you call hot ? Bc I live in Miami and the Caribbean so my hot may vary from your hot my trip is mid September
I'm from Florida and Rome can be like south Florida-hot. In fact, it's been that hot for the past few days (high 30's Celsius/ high 90's, low 100's Fahrenheit.) And Rome is like Florida in that it gets humid and muggy. So if you are used to that heat, the heat in Rome probably won't surprise you. On the other hand, if you are coming in September, it won't be as hot, which is why September is peak season.
Elyssa's content is the defacto best content provider in anything Rome. Absolutely the best
Wow! That is so nice of you! Thank you so much!!
Agree 100%.
Hi , could you please help me regarding ticket for kids? I don't know how to get it online
If you are purchasing standard Colosseum tickets, you cannot book kids' tickets online, Instead, you pick them up at the Colosseum on the day of your visit: ua-cam.com/video/XHgzr9YkqEI/v-deo.html If you are booking Full Experience tickets, then you HAVE to book your kids' free tickets when you book yours. It's one of the options when booking. You'll fill out their names there, too. Then, on the day you visit, same procedure as above for collecting your kids' tickets.
Thank you very much ur video really helps ❤
Do you know if there is a free app for kids that teach them about places in Rome like the Colosseum?
I would recommend the Khan Academy for free online lessons and they have an app, too. It's not specific to Ancient Rome, but it's a great resource. learn.khanacademy.org/khan-academy-kids/
